Located in the heart of La Jolla Village, just one block from the coast, the La Jolla Woman’s Club is a treasured community landmark. Our historic clubhouse, designed by renowned architect Irving Gill, is surrounded by beautifully maintained private gardens, creating an atmosphere of timeless elegance and tranquility.
Since its founding, the club has been dedicated to serving as a welcoming gathering place for the community. Today, the La Jolla Woman’s Club is a premier venue for private events of all kinds, including weddings, non-profit fundraisers, receptions, lectures, dinners, holiday parties, celebrations of life, retreats, and educational meetings.
Our History
Founded in 1894 as the Women's Literary Club of La Jolla, the La Jolla Woman's Club quickly became a leading voice for women's and children's rights. Early members advocated for women's suffrage, child welfare laws, and education reform, hosting world-renowned speakers like Helen Keller and Lucy Stone. In 1914, longtime member and benefactor Ellen Browning Scripps gave the Club its permanent home, commissioning renowned architect Irving Gill to design the clubhouse and donating the completed building to the Club. Recognized today as a landmark of early modern architecture, the building has anchored the Club's work for over a century. The Club's activism extended to supporting the Red Cross during both World Wars, raising funds and volunteering for relief efforts.
Over the decades, the Club played a key role in advancing social causes locally and nationally. Today, the La Jolla Woman's Club continues its legacy as a vibrant community hub, where members enjoy monthly luncheons, programs, and a variety of activities.
